NEWSHORNETS CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF CHAMPIONSDate Posted : 7th September 2006
Over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd of September, a new and hopefully Annual tournament was played at Virtual Ice, Rotherham bringing together National Champions and Vice-Champions from BiSHA (ball), BIPHA (puck) and GBHI (puck).
Hallamshire Hornets and London Street Warriors represented BiSHA with Cruisers and Titans IHC for GBHI and Norton Cyclones and Blackpool Raiders for BIPHA. Blackpool replaced Durham at short notice.
The standard of hockey was the highest possible with some incredibly close games and the resulting final between arguably the best two teams on the day was played throughout at breakneck speed with Hornets scoring the winner with 42 seconds left to gain revenge over Cruisers who narrowly beat them in the group stages.
It was a superb tournament and although unsanctioned, BiSHA came out on top Warriors finished fourth for BiSHA and to say that they were the only team there that does not normally play with a puck, that was no disgrace.
- WINNERS: Hallamshire Hornets (BiSHA)
- Runners-up: Cruisers (GBHI)
- 3rd Place: Titans IHC (GBHI)
- 4th Place: London Street Warriors (BiSHA)
- 5th Place: Blackpool Raiders (BIPHA)
